The Stingray Academy uses a progression to teach novice swimmers the essentials they will need to join the swim team.
The Academy was created to create a tighter focused learning progression designed towards learning technique. Swim team is a mix of training and instruction, while the Stingray Academy is instruction-based with more individualized interaction.
The past two years, Academy training resulted in swimmers who surpassed our expectations when they moved up to the team. They were better prepared than if they had been part of the team initially.
The first day of the Academy will be Tuesday May 29th. We will be performing evaluations and will provide more detailed information about the assessment process. The candidate must be able to swim half the length of the pool. In addition, the swimmer must be able to put their face in the water and practice rhythmic breathing (taking a breath regularly) and have a semblance of an out-of-water stroke. This is similar to what a child would learn if they completed a typical beginner swimming class.
The day of evaluations, we will provide feedback to you and let you know the next step. If your child is not quite ready for the Academy, we may be able to give you some pointers, or private lessons might accelerate his or her progress.
